Introduction | Frustrated Biomedic

Hi world! *Waves awkwardly*

I graduated in BSc Biomedical Science with First Class Honours in the summer of 2016. Sounds pretty impressive, right? Well it's actually not that great considering I can't walk into a hospital and demand the role of a Biomedical Scientist *sigh*... I honestly thought that crawling my way through three years of university, studying such an intensive and difficult course would give me enough credibility to start working in a hospital laboratory but guess what? I WAS WRONG!

Turns out that having a degree isn't enough. I need to be trained by a professional to build my portfolio and qualify as a scientist. Now, searching for a trainee Biomedical Scientist post is no easy task. I have come across a handful of vacancies in the West Midlands but I don’t think that's a viable option for me. I live in London and being an Asian, Muslim female the concept of moving out is alien to me LOL. Our parents like to keep us in their homes for long as it’s physically possible. Independence? What's that?

But really, I don't think I could leave my hometown (London) to start a new life in a remote village. I wouldn't fit in and I simply wouldn’t know how to function. The hustle and bustle of a busy city is engraved in my DNA and is vital to my survival haha.

Anyways, I feel like I'm rambling. So let me just get to the point. I am a recent graduate looking for a trainee position to qualify as a Biomedical Scientist. I also wish to study medicine in the near future so I will also be preparing myself for that too. I have created this blog to share my journey into a career as a scientist and maybe one day a DOCTOR, Insha'Allah (God willing). I will take you through my ups and down, keeping it as honest as I can.

P.S. Please excuse my amateur first post. I promise I'll get better. Can't wait to bring more interesting content your way!

  5. I think this sums up the frustration of a lot of us, the truth is that the market is overflowed and people with masters degrees and experience are sometimes getting entry level jobs (like the trainee jobs you mentioned) and there's nothing left for graduates.
